18-year-old arrested after shooting teen at fast food restaurant near Garland high school, police say

Just after 3 p.m., Garland police officers responded to shooting call in the 3300 block of Broadway Boulevard.

GARLAND, Texas — An 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection to shooting another teen at a fast food restaurant, resulting in multiple lockouts at Garland ISD schools Thursday, officials say.

Garland police said Edgar Francisco Solis Torres was taken into custody for aggravated assault – serious bodily injury for shooting a South Garland High School student.

Just after 3 p.m. Thursday, Garland police officers responded to the shooting call in the 3300 block of Broadway Boulevard.

According to a spokesperson with Garland police, “two young people had an argument over a girl in the parking lot of a Sonic,” resulting in gunfire.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found one teen male suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local in critical condition, police said.

Garland ISD said multiple nearby schools, including South Garland High School were placed on lockout, meaning no one was allowed on campus, as police set up a perimeter to search for the suspect. The district said it was lifted a couple of hours later once they got the all-clear from police.

Police said they located the suspect, Solis Torres, Thursday evening. He is currently being held in the Garland Detention Center. No bond has been set at this time.

The investigation is ongoing.
