KSAT Money Q&A: San Antonio Startup Week to offer learning, networking opportunities

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio Startup Week will offer local entrepreneurs and business professionals a chance to network in person and learn from industry experts during seven days of panels, workshops and city-building events.

This year’s San Antonio Startup Week (SASW) will take place at different downtown locations between Oct. 16 and Oct. 22.

Phillip Hernandez, chief operating officer of Geekdom and executive director of SASW, said he expects a huge turnout now that the startup week is back to being fully in person, like in previous years before the pandemic.

“I think everybody’s eager to come in person. Last year, we tried a more of a hybrid model and, you know, it was well attended,” Hernandez said. “But we want to see more folks get in close together and get in there. We want a packed house. We have some awesome keynotes that are going to be happening.”

One of those speakers is Steve Case, co-founder of AOL and an accomplished entrepreneur, who will kick off SASW with a keynote address on Oct. 17. Case will be joined at the SASW Kickstart Celebration by Hernandez and San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg.

Hernandez said this startup week would offer new experiences than in years past and bring together the whole startup community in San Antonio.

“There’s a lot of things that are different about this year that we’ve never done before. One of them being — we’ve really put a focus on all of the startup and entrepreneurial resources in San Antonio,” Hernandez said. “So everybody who’s a player in our ecosystem is involved. We have Alamo Angels, Active Capital, Velocity, Tech Port, Capital Factory Geekdom, Tech Bloc — everybody. We’re all involved in this.”

Hernandez said one of the main principles of startup weeks is to make them free and accessible to attendees. To register for 2022 San Antonio Startup Week and see the schedule of events and sessions, click here.
