Man shot during altercation just south of downtown; suspect in custody, police say

SAN ANTONIO – One man is in the hospital and another man is in custody after an altercation turned into a shooting just south of downtown early Friday morning, according to San Antonio police.

The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. in the 1000 block of South Alamo Street, not far from South St. Mary’s Street.

According to police, a fight between two men in their 30s led to one of them pulling out a gun and shooting the other multiple times in the lower extremities.

The victim was taken by EMS to Brooke Army Medical Center, where he is listed in critical condition.

SAPD said the suspected shooter was detained on scene. A reason for the fight was not given.

The San Antonio Police Department, the San Antonio Fire Department and EMS all responded to the call.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
