SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police say they are searching for a suspect after a woman was stabbed multiple times during an attempted sexual assault near downtown overnight.
The incident occurred around 1:45 a.m. in the 500 block of Columbus Street, not far from North Santa Rosa Street.
According to police, the stabbing happened under the highway and the woman was found in a parking lot, not far from the San Francesco di Paola church.
A preliminary police report states the victim told officers that a man, roughly 40 to 45 years old, approached her near San Pedro Creek Culture Park and made sexual advances toward her. The woman said she denied the man’s advances and he became upset and forced her to the ground, where he attempted to sexually assault her.
Police said the victim tried to fight the man off, but he used a knife to stab her multiple times. The man then fled on foot eastbound.
The victim was taken by ambulance to an area hospital, with life-threatening injuries.
SAPD said a search quadrant was created and they used K-9s, the Eagle helicopter and responding officers to try and find the man. He has not been found.
The San Antonio Police Department, San Antonio Park Police and EMS all responded to the call.
The investigation is ongoing, police said.
