A 78-year-old man was killed after a man driving a stolen semi slammed into the DPS building in Brenham.
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – New details have been shared about Friday’s deadly collision of a stolen 18-wheeler that crashed into the DPS office in Brenham.
The driver, 42-year-old Clenard Parker of Chappell Hill, remains in the Washington County Jail charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury, one count of evading arrest or detention causing serious bodily injury, and one count of unauthorized use of a vehicle. His bonds total $2 million.
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), Texas Ranger Division continues to investigate the incident that took place on Friday, April 12, 2024, when a commercial motor vehicle was driven through the DPS Driver License Office in Brenham, Texas. The office is located at 975 U.S. Highway 290.
A total of 14 people were in the DPS building when the 18-wheeler crashed, everyone was injured, and one person died from their injuries at the hospital. DPS confirmed Bobby Huff, 78, was taken by medical helicopter to St. Joesph Regional Hospital – Bryan, where he succumbed to his injuries on Friday. DPS confirmed that Mr. Huff was not an employee of the state but it’s unclear why he was at the DPS office on Friday morning.
Two victims who were taken by medical helicopter remain in critical but stable condition.
The crash into the DPS office Friday morning happened a day after Parker was denied a CDL license, authorities confirm. When authorities found him in the stolen semi, Parker refused to stop and eventually rammed the vehicle into the building located off Highway 290.
This is an active and ongoing investigation by the Texas Rangers, and no further information is available for release at this time, according to Sgt. Justin Ruiz.
The Brenham Driver License Office will remain closed for an undetermined time. Alternative offices are Bryan, Hempstead, and Caldwell. Customers with scheduled appointments at the Brenham Office will be contacted by the DPS Driver License Division.
