Aggies Beat UAlbany, 6-2, to Open NCAA Postseason

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The No. 16 seed Texas A&M softball team defeated UAlbany, 6-2, Friday night at Davis Diamond. The Aggies move to the winner’s bracket and play Texas State on Saturday at 2 p.m.

UAlbany (33-13) struck first in the opening frame, before Texas A&M (41-13) answered back plating five runs on five hits to lead 5-2 after one. After a 1-2-3 inning from both teams in the second inning, the Maroon & White extended its lead by one in the third after a sac fly.

Texas A&M threatened to enter run-rule territory in the fourth inning after Kennedy Powell led off with a single, followed by consecutive singles from Koko Wooley and Jazmine Hill to load the bases with no outs. The Aggies spoiled the opportunity after a hard line drive to first base resulted in a double play, followed by a fly out to right field to end the inning with two runners in scoring position.

After yielding two runs in the first inning, the Aggie defense put on a show recording two double plays as Emiley Leavitt faced the minimum in each of the following three innings. Leavitt earned the win after tossing 4.0 innings and striking out three, while yielding two runs, two hits and one walk.
