A&M track team grabs gold in Lubbock; Several Aggies qualify at Penn Relays

   

Texas A&M has its track & field teams competing in two meets this weekend.

Texas A&M freshman McKenzie Fairchild and Ana De La Garza both won their respective sections of the javelin with personal-best efforts in the Corky/Crofoot Shootout in Lubbock on Friday.

Fairchild won with a throw of 180 feet, 7 inches, good for eighth best in program history. Sophomore Garza won the B Section (151-9).

Senior Lamara Distin won the high jump at 6 feet, 3.25 inches. Senior John Baker was second in the long jump (25-5.5), but was the top collegiate.

Junior Heather Abadie won the pole vault (13-8.25) for the fifth time this year. Senior Riley Floerke also had a career day (13-4.25) for fifth place and sixth best in program history. On the men’s side of the pole vault, freshman Leo Bowen was second (17-3.5).

Junior Bryce McCray and senior Kirk Collins, Jr. finished a 1-2 finish in the men’s 400 hurdles in 50.32 and 51.35, respectively.

A&M was second in the 4×400 (3 minutes, 13.33 seconds) with Bryce McCray, Blake Harris, Collins and Landon Helms carrying the baton. West Texas A&M won in 3:12.44.

Penn Relays

Several A&M entries at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia on Friday qualified for Saturday’s finals.

The women’s 4×400 team of Semira Killebrew, Camryn Dickson, Leeah Burr and Laila Hackett was sixth (44.63).

The men’s 4×400 team of Isaiah Teer, Devante Mount, Omarion Ferguson and Keanu Jones was eighth (40.42).

In the 100 hurdles, Jaiya Covington was second (13.29) and Jasmine Harmon was fifth (13.55).

In the 100, Killebrew was third (11.50); in the 110 hurdles, Connor Schulman was sixth (13.73).

The women’s 4×400 relay of Jaydan Wood, Kennedy Wade, Nissi Kabongo and Jermaisha Arnold was second in 3:29.88. The men’s 4×400 relay team with Auhmad Robinson on anchor was second in 3:04.52.

The men’s distance medley relay team of Cooper Cawthra, Robinson, Kimar Farquharson and Sam Whitmarsh was sixth (9:40.90).

The men’s 4×200 relay team of DeMarco Escobar, Cutler Zamzow, Teer and Devante Mount was fifth (1:24.55).

The women’s sprint medley relay team of Wade, Dickson, Arnold and Bailey Goggans was second (3:42.29).
