SAN ANTONIO – People, pets and power lines were all concerns for San Antonio firefighters who were called to a burning East Side home early Tuesday morning.
The fire was called in around 4:30 a.m. at a home in the 2100 block of Hays Street, not far from North Walters Street and Interstate 35.
Firefighters said when they arrived, they found flames showing on the outside of the house. A live power line also came down on a pickup truck that was parked in the driveway, fire officials said.
The SAFD said extensive damage was done to the house as a result of the flames. They had to wait for CPS Energy to shut off power to the home before they could get inside, firefighters said. They were however, eventually able to put out the fire.
Fire officials say two people lived inside the home and that they, along with five dogs and two cats all made it safely out. No one was hurt.
The cause of the fire is not currently known. A fire investigation team is working to determine the exact cause.
According to the San Antonio Fire Department website, as many as 11 units answered the call.
