Elko speaks at first Coaches’ Night

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – The Brazos County A&M Club held its annual Coaches’ Night at the Legends Event Center on Monday.

This was head football coach Mike Elko’s first coaches’ night since coming to A&M. He will speak at a total of six coaches’ nights this offseason across Texas.

“There’s not a lot of schools that can gather as many Aggies as we do through this coaches’ night circuit and where else would it start than right here in Brazos County,” Elko said.

“What we can do giving back to kids in these communities is really important,” Elko exclaimed. “And sometimes more important than what we do on the field. This is a great opportunity for me to come out for a great cause and help raise money for scholarships for kids in this area to go to Texas A&M,” Elko added.

Elko started giving an opening statement to the audience, “a state of the union of A&M football,” as he described it. He then opened it up to a question-and-answer session. He spoke on everything from incoming freshman Terry Bussey, bolstering the offensive line, and how excited he is about the talent level of this defense.

Both a silent and live auction were held to help raise money for local scholarships for students from Brazos County to attend Texas A&M. The Brazos County A&M Club said they were able to fund an Aggie ring scholarship for veterans and raised about $30,000 from the auctions.
