Muns served as mayor from 1992 to 1996.
PLANO, Texas — James Muns, the city of Plano’s former mayor and the father of the current mayor, John B. Muns, has died, city officials announced Thursday.
Muns served as mayor from 1992 to 1996. In a statement, the city expressed “great sadness” over the former mayor’s passing.
Muns and his wife, Betty, moved to Plano in the early 1970s and quickly became pillars in the community, the city said in a statement. He founded Muns Enterprises, an investment company, shortly after arriving in the city. One of his first projects was developing El Rancho Estates in Plano.
Muns and his wife met at Abilene Christian University and got hitched in 1952, sharing 71 years of marriage before Betty’s death last year.
He is survived by the couple’s four children, Katharine “Kathy” Muns Spencer, Marla Muns, Dr. Greg Muns, and John Muns. The couple also shared 10 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
The city said funeral arrangements are still being finalized.
