The Democrats aren’t done with former President Donald Trump just yet. The Justice Department just issued the latest in a series of politically-motivated indictments against the Orange Man What Is Bad(TM). The objective here is to convict him of crimes related to his contesting of the outcome of the 2020 presidential election.
But, according to recent reports, we won’t have much time to discuss the veracity of the Justice Department’s latest indictment because Fulton County, Georgia, is gearing up to take a swipe at the former president:
This month a Fulton County grand jury is expected to hear a case against former President Donald Trump and others for potential criminal election meddling.
Thursday, FOX 5 spoke to Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis who is the lead on this investigation.
“We’re ready,” she said.
Willis stayed tight-lipped when asked about the status of her two-and-a-half-year investigation into Trump and his allies for criminal meddling during the 2020 election. She says despite Trump facing charges in Washington D.C. this week, her focus is Fulton County.
“We’re concentrating on Georgia and things that impacted Georgia,” Willis said.
The Fulton County grand jurors who will weigh whether to charge the former president and others with alleged election interference have already been seated, so an indictment decision could come at any time.
While the indictment could “come at any time,” it is expected that Trump will be indicted this month. The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office in Atlanta is reportedly increasing security and closing streets around the courthouse in anticipation of the indictment. While the facilities will remain open for foot traffic, public parking will not be available.
As you might have expected, Democrats and their close friends and allies in the elite media are quite giddy about the prospect of yet another Trump indictment. One thing they will be looking forward to is the former president’s mugshot, which Sheriff Labat has already indicated will be taken in the event of an indictment. So far, in his other indictments, he has not had a mugshot taken, so this will almost certainly delight those who want to see him go down.
District Attorney Willis has been conducting a criminal investigation into Trump’s alleged interference in the 2020 election. She has also been investigating the former president’s associates as well. The alleged crimes include solicitation to commit election fraud, intentional interference with election duties, making false statements, and whatever else her office can come up with.
This impending legal problem is widely viewed by folks on both sides as one that could potentially bring about Trump’s downfall. The case against him brought by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg over the Stormy Daniels matter is about as flimsy as a wet tissue in a Florida hurricane. In fact, the case related to Trump’s alleged mishandling of classified documents is a bit stronger.
Nevertheless, it isn’t crazy to suggest that Fulton County’s potential case against the former president might be the most dangerous. The seriousness of the charges could cause devastating harm to Trump if the state wins a conviction on even one of them. From where I sit, this is the case that has the highest likelihood of landing Trump in prison.
However, it is also worth acknowledging that some, like legal scholar Alan Dershowitz, have suggested that Fulton County’s case against the former president might not be as strong as it seems.
It is also worth speculating whether Fulton County’s move against Trump will be the final line of attack when it comes to weaponizing the legal system against the former president. This one had already been in the offing ever since 2020, so there are no surprises here. However, this does not mean there won’t be other efforts to use the government to attack Trump coming out of the woodwork somewhere down the line. The question is: Can Trump withstand the inevitable legal storm?
