Here’s how you could save 21 hours on your commute

A small adjustment in morning routines can unlock 21 hours a year on your commute, according to Yardi Kube.

DALLAS — If you’re someone who runs into traffic on your morning or afternoon commute, a small adjustment to the time you leave for work and return home could make a big difference.

In 2022, the average one-way commute time was 26.4 minutes, according to the latest data from the U.S. Census Bureau .

Three in five commuters leave for work between 6 and 9 a.m. with the rush half-hour being between 7 and 7:30 in the morning.

In North Texas, specifically in Dallas, if you leave just 30 minutes later, you could save 21 hours over a year, according to a survey by Yardi Kube.

If you leave a little later, you’ll avoid the heaviest morning traffic, the research indicates.

Almost 14% of all employees in Dallas are traveling to work between 8:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. in the morning, data shows.

If you leave only half an hour later, roads become considerably clearer, and the total number of people on the road drops to about 7%, which according to an analysis by Yardi Kube, automatically saves you 21 hours a year.
