Honoring tradition: Texas A&M’s Muster pays tribute to departed Aggies

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) -In a solemn tribute to the enduring spirit of camaraderie and remembrance, Aggies from across the globe united once again for the annual tradition of Muster, held on April 21st at Texas A&M University. This cherished ceremony, dating back to 1883, honors the memory of departed Aggies who passed away the year prior.

At the heart of Muster is the Roll Call, where the names of the deceased are solemnly read aloud. For each name spoken, a poignant “Here” is answered by a friend or family member, symbolizing the eternal presence of the Aggie spirit.

This year’s Muster was marked by speeches from esteemed figures within the Aggie community. Major General (Ret.) Tim Green, class of ‘86 and Director of the George H. W. Bush Combat Development Complex, delivered a keynote speech that resonated with attendees. Additionally, Texas A&M President Ret. Gen. Mark Welsh III, along with other dignitaries, offered their reflections during the ceremony.

Aggies say the significance of Muster extends far beyond the confines of Texas A&M’s campus, as Aggies worldwide gather in solidarity to honor their fallen comrades. From small, intimate gatherings to large-scale events, Muster serves as a poignant reminder of the enduring bonds that unite Aggies across generations and continents.

This year’s Campus Muster included the solemn reading of the names of those honored, individuals who left an indelible mark on the Texas A&M community through their lives and contributions.
