BRENHAM, Texas – A $13,478 grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority and the City of Brenham will help Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Brenham add a chest compression system to its hospital emergency room.

The Community Development Partnership Program grant, along with $3,369 in matching funds from the medical center, will provide equipment to help medical staff save lives during cardiac emergencies.

“In a medical emergency, minutes matter,” said Jason Jennings, Baylor Scott & White – College Station Region president. “This essential device will be used by our caregivers to treat patients experiencing cardiac arrest.”

With the community’s help, the medical center continues to build on its commitment to provide quality care close to home, Jennings said.

Baylor Scott & White is expanding its Emergency Department to help meet the growing needs for rural medical care in Washington County, he said. The grant-funded equipment from LCRA strengthens these efforts to enhance patient experiences and the capabilities of the care team.

The community grant is one of 46 grants awarded recently through LCRA’s Community Development Partnership Program, which helps volunteer fire departments, local governments, emergency responders and nonprofit organizations fund capital improvement projects in LCRA’s wholesale electric, water and transmission service areas. The program is part of LCRA’s effort to give back to the communities it serves. Pedernales Electric Cooperative is one of LCRA’s wholesale electric customers and is a partner in the grant program.

Applications for the next round of grants will be accepted in January. More information is available at lcra.org/cdpp.
