The Pirates senior is a Texas A&M commit who’s looking to grab a second ring in his final playoff run.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — For Blayne Lyne and the rest of his teammates the goal is simple: another state championship. Lyne was a member of the 2022 title team and he is looking to add more to his legacy before playing college baseball.
“Everyone on this team’s bought in this year,” Lyne said. “The coaches are even bought in way more so just going out there and being able to compete as Redemption II on our back it’s just huge for us.”
Lyne’s performance this season has helped London climb to the number three ranking in 3A baseball. Co-head coach Albert Amaya says he has made significant strides from his freshman year to now but his leadership has been a driving force.
“The command that he has of his pitches, it’s been unbelievable this year so he’s been a real leader for us on the mound,” Amaya said of Lyne. “He kind of anchors that pitching staff for us, no doubt.”
Lyne started the state championship game in 2022, where his team rallied to capture its first title. Last year the Pirates fell to Wall in the semifinals. Lyne says the loss has been a big motivator.
“Learning experiences you can always take with you and learn what else to do. Like what else could you have done so I take that game also I’m like what else could I have done to prepare myself for better for that game and I’ve learned that I could have prepared myself way more than what I actually did.”
While Lyne is focused on finishing his senior year strong, he is also preparing to continue his baseball career at Texas A&M. He signed in November and is excited to be an Aggie legacy.
“My grandpa, he played at Texas A&M University also. That’s all I’ve grown up knowing was to be an Aggie so just knowing I could have the opportunity to play there at one of the best schools and the best conferences is just an honor to be able to go there.”
“He deserves it and all this recognition that he’s getting this year from pro scouts to signing with A&M,” Amaya said. “He deserves everything he’s accomplished this year no doubt.”
