After a cool start in the low 60s, we can expect more sunshine today with highs in the upper 80s, a step down from our Thursday. This upcoming weekend looks completely dry and sunny, with highs in the upper 80s Saturday and low 90s Sunday. Sunday will be windy though, with south winds gusting to 30 mph. Expect higher pollen levels and a higher fire danger Sunday as well.

1. Trump targets Texas law firm with new executive order
President Donald Trump signed an executive order targeting a Texas law firm that has represented clients in multi-billion dollar defamation suits against conservative media outlets surrounding claims the 2020 election was “stolen.”
Houston-based Susman Godfrey LLP represented Dominion Voting Systems in lawsuits against Fox News, Newsmax and Mike Lindell — the founder of MyPillow — after they made false claims that the company’s voting machines helped rig the 2020 election.
2. In the Texas GOP Senate primary, Paxton and Cornyn trade early attacks
The Texas GOP Senate primary is shaping up to be one of the most contentious and expensive races in recent history, pitting incumbent Sen. John Cornyn against state Attorney General Ken Paxton. The rivalry, marked by Cornyn’s blunt characterization of Paxton as a “conman and a fraud,” signals a bitter campaign ahead.
3. Measles outbreak leads to third MMR dose recommendation for West Texas infants
In response to more than 500 measles cases and two child deaths in the state, the Texas Department of State Health Services provided new vaccination recommendations to those in the hardest-hit West Texas counties.
Three doses of the vaccine are recommended for all infants living within the outbreak areas; one at 6-11 months, the second at 12-15 months and the third at 4-6 years.

From ‘El Rey’ to ‘Hamilton,’ acclaimed Latino artists enter National Recording Registry
The work of three revolutionary Latino artists has joined the ranks of timeless American music preserved in the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry.
The latest round of inductees, announced Wednesday, includes Vicente Fernández’s “El Rey,” Freddy Fender’s “Before the Next Teardrop Falls” and the cast album “Hamilton” from the hit Broadway musical written by Lin-Manuel Miranda.
