People named ‘Kyle’ hope to break Guinness World Record in namesake Texas city

KYLE, Texas (TND) — For the fifth year in a row, a determined group of people are coming together in hopes of breaking a Guinness World Record by hosting a the biggest gathering of individuals who have the same first name.

“The gathering of Kyles Challenge” will be underway this weekend at the Kyle Fair, a three-day event in Kyle, Texas.

We are asking you to once again answer the ‘Call of the Kyle’ to break the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS for the largest same-name, first name-only gathering at the Kyle Fair, a Tex-Travaganza, on Saturday, May 18 at Lake Kyle Park,” according to the City of Kyle website.

The website noted the “Kyle Fair A Tex-Travaganza” will begin at 1 p.m., with guests urged to pre-register online at KyleFair.com or in-person at the event on Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. or Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

“All Kyles that participate will be given a free Kyle Fair T-shirt while supplies last. Individuals of all ages are welcome to participate but proof of identification is required. For acceptable forms of identification see the ‘Kyle Verification Process’ section,” according to the website, which also noted there is no cost to take part.

To break the record, participants must be named Kyle. It has to be a first name, not a middle name or last name, and spelled K-Y-L-E.

“Iterations of Kyle, such as Kyler, Kiel, or Kylee, are not accepted,” the website noted.

Plus, every single Kyle “must be positioned simultaneously and remain so for a minimum of 5 minutes.”

The largest gathering of people with the same first name is 2,325, according to Guinness World Records. The goal was set on July 30, 2017, by “Ivans” in the city of Kupreski Kosci in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with a total of 2,325.

“The record attempt included the song Moj Ivane by Marko Perkovi Thompson,” the website noted.

After four previous attempts, event organizers in Kyle are hoping for a victory in this year.

“Let’s make 2024 the Year of the Kyle and beat the current GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS,” the city said online.
