Police investigate shooting at Bowie High School in Arlington, Texas

   

ARLINGTON, Texas — One person was killed during shooting at Bowie High School, and a suspect is in custody, according to Arlington police. That person was transported to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

According to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner, the deceased has been identified as 18-year-old Etavion Barnes.

The suspect is being booked into Arlington County Jail on one count of murder.

The district said the shooting happened outside the school just before 3 p.m., and the school went into lockdown.

According to the district, at students inside Bowie High School are safe, and all of them will be bussed to the AISD reunification center.

The reunification area is at 1001 E. Division St. at the Arlington ISD Athletics and Aquatics Center. There will be overflow parking available for reunification at Lot 11 at AT&T Stadium.

Officers remain on scene, continuing protective sweeps of the area. 

In a statement, Arlington ISD Superintendent Dr. Dr. Matt Smith said the district has canceled classes at Bowie High School for Thursday, April 25.

“When students return to class, they will have the full support of our counseling team for as long as needed,” he said.
