HONDO, Texas – Most Hondo residents were without electricity for a couple of hours Monday after a major natural gas leak.
The power substation near Avenue U had to be shut off around 12:45 p.m. for the gas line repair. Homes nearby were forced to evacuate due to their proximity to the substation.

Crews worked for about an hour to repair a gas line north of the intersection of Avenue V and 21st Street, according to the Hondo Police Department.
Power was restored around 2:15 p.m., police said.
Additional officers were assigned to the Hondo ISD campus as a precaution while crews make repairs.
