Remains identified as Texas woman who claimed she was being chased in woods before disappearance, sheriff says

Three years have passed since a mother in Northeast Texas called 911 and claimed someone was following her in the woods before she disappeared.

This week, Panola County Sheriff Cutter Clinton confirmed Lauren Thompson’s remains have been found.

She was first reported missing on Jan. 10, 2019 in Panola County, according to a report from NBC News.

Human remains were found in July of this year, but investigators had to examine dental comparisons before they could identify them, Sheriff Clinton said.

It wasn’t until Tuesday, Dec. 13 that authorities were able to confirm the remains belonged to Thompson.

“Our office will be diligent on pursuing all investigative leads,” Sheriff Clinton said. “Ms. Thompson’s family has been notified and has an open communication with our office.”

On the day of Thompson’s disappearance, NBC News said she called 911 and told the operator that someone was chasing her and that she fled her vehicle. Authorities said she sounded “disoriented and confused” during the phone call, which lasted for 21 minutes.

Investigators were able to track down her vehicle, which was found on the side of a road and stuck in mud in the Rock Hill community, NBC News reports.

Authorities said they believe Thompson was with other people before she disappeared, but they don’t believe they were involved.

At last check, the sheriff’s office hasn’t made any arrests or named any suspects in relation to the case.
