Restauranteur opens his fifth eatery in Dallas’ West End

Restauranteur Jay Khan has opened Mas Street Tacos, marking his fifth concept in Dallas’ West End Historic District.

Located at 1722 N. Market St., the taco shop is a counter service-style taqueria with inside counter seating and a patio. Heading up the kitchen is Executive Chef Juan Sanchez, who has worked with Khan for more than 20 years and also oversees Khan’s steakhouse concept, The Liam’s Steakhouse.

Mas Street Tacos officially opened June 14 and is settling into its digs and gaining attention. It replaced Westend Burger Bar, which closed in 2022.

Mas Street sells all-day breakfast tacos as well as other taco staples such as al pastor, barbacoa, quesabirria and more. In addition to tacos, the restaurant also offers quesadillas, sopas, tortas, burritos and flautas. All meats are smoked or marinated in-house.

Khan has had a stake in the West End since 2004 when he opened RJ Mexican Cuisine, which remains in operation. Over the past 20 years, he has opened 3Eleven Kitchen and Cocktails, Chet’s Dallas and most recently Liam’s. All five of his restaurants are situated within a block of each other.

Khan said he’s continued to invest in the this part of downtown because of its proximity to world-class museums and cultural attractions such as the Dallas World Aquarium, the Sixth Floor Museum, the Dallas Art Museum and others. The West End offers a unique mix of historical buildings and modern businesses and its backers have pushed for new investments in retail and parks.

“The rich history of museums and attractions make this area the perfect spot where conventioneers and locals come to meet,” he said in a statement. “The addition of Mas Street Tacos to our portfolio is an additional tribute to our family, tradition and the pursuit of culinary excellence.
