(NEXSTAR) – Where do Yelp’s “Elite” members go when they get a hankering for doughy treats and refined sugars?
If they’re in Texas, they just might head over to Round Rock Donuts, according to the review website.
Yelp has recently compiled a list of the best bakeries in every state based on the ratings of its “Elite Squad” — a group of users who have demonstrated a knack for going “above and beyond” with their reviews and photos — and Round Rock apparently takes the cake in Texas.
“We followed a heavenly aroma and it led us straight to Roundrock [sic] Donuts!” the official Instagram page for Yelp Austin wrote of the shop. “After sifting through many local bakeries, our Yelp Elites have named this pastry purveyor as the very best in Texas.”
Round Rock Donuts, located about 20 minutes north of Austin, is well known for its yellowy-orange doughnuts (said to take their color from egg yolks), though it also offers eclairs, cinnamon rolls, muffins, cupcakes, cookies, wedding cakes and both savory and sweet kolaches.
The shop’s “Texas-sized” doughnuts, which are generally a bit larger than an average human head, have also gotten a fair bit of attention on Yelp and other social media outlets.
“It’s a Texasy Texas-centric kind of place and I highly recommend seeking it out,” one “Elite” Yelp reviewer recently wrote of Round Rock Donuts, which also has a location in Cedar Park. “Tip: the Texas-sized donut is enough for a healthy family of four.”
Too far from Round Rock to make the drive for a needlessly giant doughnut? Yelp’s Elite Squad also gave rave reviews to bakeries in neighboring states, including: Little Bread Company in Fayetteville, Arkansas; Willa Jean in New Orleans; Clafoutis in Santa Fe; and Pie Junkie, in Oklahoma City.
