TATUM, Texas — A Tatum High School student was arrested after administrators found an unloaded weapon in their backpack Wednesday afternoon.
According to a letter from Principal Sheri Hopkins, the administration and police found the student within a minute after being notified of a possible weapon on campus. The unloaded weapon was found in the student’s backpack and they were arrested.
Hopkins said there was no immediate threat to any students.
“The safety of our students and staff is our highest priority. Tatum ISD remains committed to providing the safest possible environment for all students,” the letter read. “We encourage the families of TISD to have conversations with their students about the importance of communicating any concerns that they may have to campus staff so they are able to take necessary actions to ensure the safety of all students.”
