Suspect crashes stolen vehicle after string of crimes in DFW, sheriff’s department says

The suspect, later identified as 31-year-old Tyler Charles Payne, is currently receiving care at a local hospital from injuries sustained in the crash.

DALLAS — An aggravated robbery suspect has been hospitalized after leading officers on a chase Monday, resulting in a crash on Interstate 35 in Dallas, the sheriff’s department said.

On Monday, Jan. 9 just before 2 p.m., the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were alerted that the Department of Public Safety helicopter was in pursuit of an armed and dangerous suspect driving a stolen Porsche through Dallas.

According to the sheriff’s department, before stealing the Porsche in Dallas, the suspect committed an aggravated robbery in Frisco, where he held a woman at gun point and stole a Cadillac SUV.

As the suspect was traveling south on I-35, he lost control and crashed into another vehicle near 8th Street in Dallas, deputies said.

The suspect then went up to a Pontiac and tried to steal it, as deputies approached to arrest him. Deputies said after a brief struggle, they were able to take the suspect into custody.

The suspect, later identified as 31-year-old Tyler Charles Payne, is currently receiving care at a local hospital from his injuries.

During the investigation, deputies learned Payne is also a two-time escapee from Choctaw County jail in Oklahoma and Hinds County jail in Mississippi.

The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office has charged Payne with aggravated robbery and fail to identify fugitive with intent to give false information.
