Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton comes to Jasper County with David Covey

Drain the swamp in not only Washington, but also Austin was the message from David Covey and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who made a stop in Jasper on Thursday night.

Paxton accompanied Covey and spoke for him in a rally that was held at the Jasper Country Club Park and Cafe 257 as the resident of Orange County tours State House District 21 in the race against the incumbent Dade Phelan of Beaumont, who also serves as Texas Speaker of the House.

Covey and Phelan are pulling out all stops in the battle for the seat in an upcoming runoff election following Covey’s narrow defeat in the recent Republican Primary Election.

In his address to a standing room only crowd of 100 or more who attended the session, Covey who is an oil and gas consultant, who has also served as chairman of the Orange County Republican Party, said he believed that property taxes should be eliminated in order to allow people to own their own home “without paying rent to someone else in the form of taxes, especially in their retirement days.”

Covey said Texas was at a critical point as residents and companies of other states move to the Lone Star State with the serious situation of border security at hand. He said the people of Texas should focus on safety, value of life and law and order. He also called on the residents of Southeast Texas to have a voice and vote.

Covey went on to say “Phelan is not with us and we know that”. Covey also criticized the incumbent Phelan of his practice of appointing liberal Democrats to various committees and positions and going along with the old leadership of the state.

Paxton said he was supporting Covey because Phelan had sold out to the establishment and had fallen in line with the appointment of many people and making deals that were not good for Texas.

Paxton specifically addressed the need for border security and the Biden Administrations failure to stop the flow of illegal immigrants into the state. In speaking of Phelan, Paxton jokingly referred to him as “Failen” a man who he said had failed to represent the people of Texas.

Paxton said the current plan by the Obama and Biden administration’s was resulting in a disaster not only at the border but also across the country. He said Biden and his team were also flying around 30,000 people a month from other countries to the U.S.

Jasper County Resident Alicia Davis, who lost to Phelan in the recent primary election was present at the meeting and Covey thanked her for what she had done in binging attention to property taxes.
