A Texas family of four is thankful to be alive after being followed for hundreds of miles from the Texas border.

The McClain County Sheriff’s Office arrested Michael Wayne Young, who has been charged with multiple counts of assault with a deadly weapon, stalking, and possessing a firearm as a convicted felon, among other charges.

According to the court documents, Young is accused of following another vehicle along Interstate 35 which he believed was his wife. Instead, a family of four visiting family and friends in Tuttle was inside the car. Two of the passengers were the family’s young children.

“Never seen nothing like this,” said McClain County Sheriff Landy Offolter. “Very dangerous, very dangerous situation with [the] mother, father and two kids.”

News 9 spoke with the father driving the vehicle that was rammed and shot at. He preferred for his family not to be named or quoted but said his family is ok but disturbed by the incident.

According to the sheriff’s office, the bullet likely missed their car. “They called 911 and got the Blanchard Police Department, and Blanchard sent some of their officers out to see if they could locate them and they met them just outside of the proper town, in the city limits,” Offolter said.

Court documents further allege that Young admitted to the accusations and revealed he thought it was his wife. “Domestic violence is on the increase, there’s no doubt of that,” Offolter added.

The McClain County Sheriff’s Office is seeking witnesses to the incident.
