There is some good news for renters in desperate need of financial relief, with The Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA) set to re-open the Texas Rent Relief (TRR) application portal from March 14-28.

The program offers first-time eligible applicants up to 18 months of rent and utility bill assistance, either with past due payments or a combination of past due, as well as up to three months of current and future payments made on their behalf.

Past applicants may also be eligible for assistance if they haven’t received the maximum allowed 18 months of assistance for rent or utility bills previously.

About the Texas Rent Relief Program

The Texas Rent Relief Program launched in February 2021 as Texas’s first and only statewide rent and utility assistance program. The Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA) administered the program with Emergency Rental Assistance Program Funds from the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Texas Rent Relief helped low and moderate-income Texas renters remain stably housed by providing rent and utility assistance.

The program has provided over $2 billion in emergency funds for rent and utility relief across 250 Texas counties and prevented evictions for over 21,000 households.

For more eligibility information and how to apply, please visit this website. Applications will be reviewed in the order they are received, so make sure to apply as soon as applications open on March 14.
