Texas sues Biden administration over Title 9 expansion for LGBTQ+ students

AUSTIN – Texas is suing the Biden administration over an expansion to Title 9 that would expand protections for LGBTQ+ students.

Attorney General Ken Paxton says the U.S. Department of Education overstepped by expanding the scope of the anti-sex discrimination law.

The new rule would go into effect in August and it aims to curb discrimination based on sex stereotypes, sexual orientation, gender identity, and sex characteristics.

Paxton filed the suit in Amarillo, guaranteeing it lands in front of a conservative judge who has previously issued nationwide injunctions on federal policies.
