Texas woman found dead after kidnapping, arrest made

  

LUBBOCK, Texas — Authorities confirmed the body found in Terry County on Wednesday morning was identified as Stacey Williams, 58, who police said was kidnapped in Lubbock on Tuesday night.

Miguel Garcia, 42, was taken into custody by the Lubbock Police Department’s SWAT Team, police said.

According to police, an investigation revealed Williams went outside, and shortly after, 40-year-old Jabaar Smith, heard a struggle. Smith went out and found Williams being taken against her will by a man.

Police said the suspect shot Smith and left the scene with Williams. Smith was taken to University Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Terry County Sheriff Tim Click said the body was found by a passerby around 8 a.m. on Highway 137, about six miles out of Brownfield.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said the Texas Rangers helped respond to the scene. DPS said the FBI was called to assist with identification.

As of Wednesday, Garcia remained at the Lubbock County Detention Center for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on a $1 million bond.
