Trial starts for man accused of stabbing, killing friend in 2020

SAN ANTONIO – The trial for a San Antonio man accused of stabbing his friend in early 2020 on the South Side started on Friday.

Abel Garcia, 38, is on trial for murder in the 379th district court. If convicted, he faces five to 99 years or life in prison.

San Antonio police said Garcia stabbed 44-year-old Albert Adame on Jan. 31, 2020, at a home in the 400 block of W. Harland Avenue.

Adame’s sister, Michelle, witnessed the attack and told police that Garcia said “I did it, and what?” according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

Michelle Adame told police that she was sitting outside when Garcia approached her. He was in possession of a knife that belonged to Michelle’s brother, Albert Adame, the affidavit states.

She told Garcia that she was going to tell her brother that he had his knife, and they went inside, the document states. At this time, another witness arrived at the house.

At some point, after they went inside, Michelle Adame said she heard “gurgling” and saw her brother fall back with a stab wound. She said she saw Garcia holding a knife and moving in her direction, the affidavit states.

She kicked him away, and Garcia left the home, police said.

Police officers responded to the home to find the victim bleeding profusely and in a pool of blood. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

Police said his sister and the other witness were able to identify his attacker.

Michelle Adame told KSAT that her brother and Garcia were friends, and no altercation took place before the stabbing.

“They called him happy. That was his nickname. He’s always had that name,” she said about her brother.
