Wait, What?! SNL Truly Funny As Skit Mocks Columbia University Parents Whose Kids Are Busy Protesting

I attended a conservative comedy show Saturday night – did you know there was such a thing? Actually, it was just a great comedy show where the comedians happened to be willing to tackle some conservative themes. There were terrific laughs from Alex Elkin, Beau Robinson, Jobob Taeleifi, Adam Yenser– you should be supporting them all if possible. We were there to support Siaka Massaquoi, a RedState contributor who’s been hounded by the Justice Department for four years because he stepped foot in the Capitol on Jan. 6 for a grand total of 71 seconds. The shindig was sponsored by our brave (and hilarious) friends at The Babylon Bee.

It was nice to see, especially when almost all network television comedy has turned into a DNC convention, with the likes of Seth Meyers, Jimmy Kimmel, and Jimmy Fallon showing up for their late-night shows to drop one-liners that seem to have been concocted by a woke, lame AI program.

And then there’s Saturday Night Live, the venerable skit show that has become so unfunny that watching it is akin to smacking your head against the wall. We’ve certainly taken our shots at them:

But this Saturday, amazingly enough, they were truly funny in a skit mocking the Columbia University pro-Hamas protests (riots). Kenan Thompson is the one truly hilarious comedian they’ve had in the last few years, and he can make you laugh doing just about anything. Here he plays the father of a Columbia student, and while he’s down for the cause, he still thinks his daughter should be sitting her butt in class, not out cosplaying a soldier. Watch:

He starts out by saying “the right things,” but then pivots, saying that while he supports the cause, he’s not paying $67,000 a year for his kid to protest:

“Let me find out she in one of those damn tents instead of the dorm room that I pay for,” he said, before the interviewer questioned his initial statement about supporting the students.

“I am in support of y’alls’ kids protesting — not my kids. My kids know better,” Thompson said. Asked what he thought of the group of protesters that took over Hamilton Hall, an academic building on Columbia’s campus, he said, “That’s good for y’alls’ kids, but they ain’t mine.”

“I’m out here busting my hump to pay all that tuition,” Thompson said. “I do it all: Uber all day. Uber Eats all night. Cut grass on the weekends, sell Gucci wallets out of my truck… I bounty-hunt whenever possible. All of that just so she can say she got a degree in African-American studies. It’s like, little girl, you’ve been Black your whole life. You know what it is.”

Then he said what at least some of the parents of these extremists must be thinking: what the heck am I getting for all that money?

“You can take that to the bank. This girl started her college during COVID,” he said. “Had me out here paying $68,000 for tuition, and she is at my house taking classes on Zoom, learning about the applied history of the BET Awards. Man, if she don’t walk — Columbia is going to be on the news for something else!”

I don’t spend a lot of time watching SNL anymore, much less praising them, but hey, when something’s good, you have to admit it’s good. It’s refreshing that they’re actually not just parroting CNN and MSNBC for a change—I won’t hold my breath, but it’d be refreshing if we saw more of it.
