Woman, her two children hit by SUV near Fort Worth elementary school, police say

The crash happened near Comanche Springs Elementary School.

SAGINAW, Texas — A woman and her two children were hit by a vehicle near an elementary school in northwest Fort Worth on Thursday morning, police said.

Police said none of their injuries were life-threatening, and all three victims were conscious and considered in stable condition.

The crash happened near Comanche Springs Elementary School in the 8100 block of Comanche Springs Drive. The school is part of the Eagle Mountain-Saginaw school district.

An SUV was making a turn at an intersection, and the driver, who is also a parent at the school, did not see the pedestrians, police said.

According to the school’s principal, the accident happened with it was “relatively dark outside.”

The principal said the two children who were hit are students at the school.

“We are staying in contact with the families affected in this accident today to provide care and support, and we are thankful this was not more serious,” Principal Melissa Davis said in a letter to parents.

Matt Zavadsky of Medstar reminded parents about being careful when driving in school zones and drop-off area.

“Don’t be distracted because kids are hard to see as it is, especially with the number of large SUV’s and pickup trucks that we have in our community,” Zavadsky said.

According to crash data from the Texas Department of Transportation, there have been eight crashes in active Fort Worth school zones involving 18 people this year, so far.

With just two months left in the year, 2022 has almost matched the data from all of last year when there were nine crashes involving 20 people.

“Certainly we’re seeing more of an incidence this year than we did last year. But again, more kids are going to school and not being homeschooled this year,” Zavadsky said.
