$1 million soccer tournament has a team competing with deep DFW ties

 

One of the competing teams features players who played their youth and professional soccer days in North Texas.

DALLAS — The Soccer Tournament, also known as TST, will put up two, $1 million winner-take-all prizes in a men’s and women’s 7-on-7 tournament in Cary, N.C.

Some high-profile names both in soccer and sports at-large will be competing, including Pat McAfee, J.J. Watt, Chad Ochocinco, Nani, Sergio Aguero, Jimmy Conrad, Ali Krieger, Chris Paul and more!

In 2023, there was only a men’s tournament, which was won by Newtown Pride FC. In 2024, TST added an eight-team women’s bracket, broken up into two groups of four. The men’s side features 48 teams broken up into 12 groups of four

One of the 48 teams competing on the men’s side has some deep DFW ties, with numerous players playing their youth and/or professional soccer in North Texas. They play for Villarreal CF , which will be led by club legend, Marcos Senna. Here is a look at the Villarreal CF roster and their DFW ties:

  • Estevan Vazquez: United States Men’s National Team (Fustal), Dallas Sidekicks, Texas Outlaws, Gallos blanco de Queretaro, Halcones de Morelos
  • Julian Hinojosa: University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, North Texas SC, USA Youth National Team, Mexico Youth National Team
  • Oscar Romero: Chivas de Guadalajara, FC Dallas Academy, Playa del Carmen, Pumas UNAM, North Texas SC
  • Steven Chavez: Villareal (North Texas), Inocentes FC, DKSC, Mesquite Outlaws, Texas Outlaws, University of Texas Tyler

TST will take place at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. from June 5 to June 10. The 48-team men’s field will commence with group play on June 5-6. Thirty-two teams will emerge from the group stage to the knockout rounds, beginning on June 7. TST’s round of 16 and quarterfinals will take place on June 8, and the two semifinal matches will be played June 9.

The men’s tournament will conclude with a winner-take-all championship on June 10.

Select matches for TST 2024 will be broadcast on the ESPN networks in the United States.
