Bexar County Criminal District Court judges appoints attorney to new associate judge position

BEXAR COUNTY – Bexar County Criminal District Court judges have appointed attorney Miguel Najera to fill a newly created associate judge position, according to county officials.

The new associate judge will handle pre-indictment matters assigned at arrest rather than indictment, county officials said in a news release.

Bexar County officials said the new position will free up judicial resources for the district courts and expedite the disposition of appropriate cases. Funding is included in the FY 2022-2023 budget.

“I am greatly honored to have been selected for this position and humbled to have been given the opportunity to assist the Criminal District Courts,” Najera said in a written statement. “I have spent my entire legal career in the halls of the criminal justice system serving our community. I look forward to helping make Bexar County the envy of the great State of Texas.”

Najera, a graduate of St. Mary’s School of Law, has experience in the Bexar County Criminal Court as a state prosecutor, defense attorney, and attorney pro-tem, county officials said. He most recently served as the Bexar County assistant district attorney.

“Najera is a consummate professional in every sense of the word. His passion for the law and drive to see it applied fairly and equitably are what drew my colleagues and I to appoint him to this position,” said Ron Rangel, criminal administrative district court judge.

Najera is expected to start as an associate judge on November 1.
