On Tuesday, the day after being indicted again, this time in Georgia, Donald Trump teased a massive press conference. According to the former president, on offer would be a “Large, Complex, Detailed but Irrefutable REPORT on the Presidential Election Fraud which took place in Georgia” that would offer him “complete EXONERATION.”
On Thursday, that plan was scrapped. Trump has posted on Truth Social that there will be no press conference nor will the report in question be released.
Trump is now saying that parts of the report will be put in legal filings, claiming the report itself is “no longer necessary.”
Prior reports following the original announcement suggested that Trump’s lawyers were steering him away from the presser due to the legal risks it would carry. DA Fani Willis, who is prosecuting the Georgia-based charges, is attempting to charge Trump under RICO statutes. Part of that is establishing that multiple individuals acted in furtherance of an alleged conspiracy to break the law. In the indictment are many examples of Trump pushing the idea that the election was stolen. His presser would have certainly provided yet more fodder for Willis’ case.
Still, the abrupt cancellation will likely lead to other questions about the supposed report, such as whether it actually contained anything groundbreaking in it at all.
