Eastbound I-635 shut down due to deadly crash, police say

 

Eastbound lanes of Interstate 635 to Interstate 75 were closed for hours Thursday morning due to the fatal crash.

DALLAS — A woman was hit and killed on Interstate 635 in northern Dallas Thursday morning, police said, which caused the interstate to be shutdown for numerous hours.

The Dallas Police Department (DPD) said officers responded at approximately 1 a.m. Thursday to the 9500 block of LBJ Freeway (I-635). Their preliminary investigation found a woman had been traveling eastbound on I-635 in the far right lane near the Skillman Street exit ramp and drove between two temporary construction barriers and hit a plastic barrier. The vehicle then veered back onto the freeway, stopping in the second to the right lane, DPD said.

The woman got our of her car and was standing in the doorway when she was hit by a van also traveling eastbound, DPD said. The woman died at the scene. 

Police said the driver of the van stopped and remained at the scene.

The woman’s identity will be confirmed by the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office, DPD said.

Lanes of I-635 re-opened later on Thursday morning around 7 a.m.
