SAN ANTONIO – A man and a woman were both wounded after an altercation turned into gunfire at an apartment complex just south of downtown early Wednesday morning, according to San Antonio police.

Officers were called around 2:45 a.m. to an apartment complex in the 300 block of West Cevallos Street, not far from Nogalitos Street and South Flores Street, after receiving word of multiple shots fired.

According to police, a man and a woman in their late 20s had gotten into an altercation in the hallway of an apartment building and then at one point began to shoot at each other.

Officers arrived and found the woman wounded in the stomach in the street, with a possible life-threatening injury. The man was then found in the apartments, with a gunshot wound to his arm. Both the man and woman were taken by ambulance to Brooke Army Medical Center, but their conditions are not currently known.

SAPD said during the gunfire a stray bullet also went into another apartment unit and hit a water pipe, causing water damage to the building. No other injuries were reported.
