North Side bar damaged by early-morning fire; ATM being looked at as possible cause

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio fire investigators are working to determine the cause of a fire that damaged a North Side bar early Thursday morning.

The fire was called in around 6 a.m. at the Texan Icehouse in the 4500 block of West Avenue, not far from Loop 410 and Jackson Keller Road.

Firefighters said when they arrived, they found the bar full of heavy smoke. They said it took them a minute to gain access, but the fire was quickly put out.

Jared Vocke, a batalion chief with the San Antonio Fire Department, said a small fire was eventually found near the rear wall by some back tables. An ATM was also nearby and is being investigated as a possible cause.

Vocke said the smoke eventually filled up the interior of the building, causing most of the damage. The damage is estimated around $15,000 to $20,000.

San Antonio fire investigators and arson investigators are now both currently working on the scene to determine the exact cause.

According to the San Antonio Fire Department website, as many as 16 units answered the call.

There were no reports of any injuries.
