Researchers predict ‘aggressive’ 2024 hurricane forecast for Texas

  

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Colorado State University released the forecast for the 2024 Atlantic Hurricane season.

Meteorologist Dr. Phillip Klotzbach with CSU says the year is the most aggressive forecast ever issued before a hurricane season.

CSU predicts the 2024 season will have 23 named storms, which is 10 more named storms compared to 2023.

Out of the 23 named storms, 11 will form into a hurricane. A total of five major hurricanes are predicted to be Category 3 or stronger.

There is a 54% chance a hurricane will strike the Texas coast and a 25% chance a major hurricane will strike the Texas coast. Both those percentages are up from last year.

Hurricane season officially begins June 1 and will continue through Nov. 30.
