School staff member in Texas fired, investigation ongoing after report of ‘misconduct involving a student’

NAZARETH, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – On Friday, officials with Nazareth ISD released an update announcing that an investigation is ongoing and a district staff member was fired after a report of alleged misconduct involving a student.

Nazareth ISD said that on Jan. 12 its officials were told a district employee “may have engaged in misconduct involving a student.” The district said that it informed Child Protective Services as well as local law enforcement and the Texas Education Agency of the allegation, and that an investigation into the report was ongoing.

“The staff member is no longer employed by Nazareth ISD,” said the district update, “The District will continue to cooperate to the fullest extent permitted by law with law enforcement, TEA, and other state and local agencies relating to educator misconduct.”

“Student and minor safety and proper professional relationships between staff and students are top priorities to Nazareth ISD. Inappropriate relationships or misconduct between District employees and students or minors are never tolerated,” the district continued, “The District strictly enforces its student anti-harassment policies and requires professional conduct from all staff. Employees receive regular training regarding proper professional relationships, communications, and boundaries with students.”

Although district officials said that the district would not comment further on the ongoing investigation, they also encouraged community members “with concerns of misconduct or a suspected improper relationship between a staff member and a student” to contact the superintendent’s office or the Castro County Sheriff’s Department.
