Texas women’s hoops move back into top 10 in AP rankings

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A pair of Big 12 wins last week moved the Texas Longhorns women’s basketball team back inside the top 10 of the Associated Press poll.

In the newest set of rankings released Monday, the Longhorns climbed one spot to No. 10 following wins over Kansas at home and Oklahoma State on the road. Texas clobbered the Jayhawks 91-56 at Moody Center on Jan. 16 and then went to Stillwater and took out the Cowgirls 77-66 on Jan. 20.

Kansas State is the highest-ranked Big 12 team in the poll, moving up three spots to No. 4. Baylor dropped a spot to No. 13 and West Virginia moved into the poll at No. 24. The Wildcats will be tested in the coming weeks without starting center Ayoka Lee. She’s out with an ankle injury, leaving Kansas State without its 6-foot-6 enforcer in the paint on both ends of the floor.

South Carolina held on to the No. 1 spot and is the only undefeated team left in the country at 17-0. UCLA moved up three spots to No. 2, followed by No. 3 Colorado, the Wildcats and No. 5 Iowa. The Hawkeyes dropped three spots following a 100-92 overtime loss to Ohio State who moved up six slots to No. 12 with the victory.

Stanford, North Carolina State, Connecticut and Louisiana State are slotted ahead of the Longhorns. The Atlantic Coast and Pac-12 conferences each have six teams in the poll.
