The Texas A&M track & field team closes its home meet slate with the Alumni Muster

   

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M track & field team closes its home meet slate with the Alumni Muster where it will honor 25 seniors Saturday at E.B. Cushing Stadium with events starting at 10 a.m.

“We get to honor a great group of seniors this weekend,” head coach Pat Henry said. “This is their last competition at our track and it’s extremely important having their parents and family here at the meet to celebrate them.”

With the newest release of national rankings, the Aggies remain No. 1 in the country on the men’s side, which marks their fourth-straight week at the top, while the women land at No. 2 which is their third-consecutive week in the top-three.

Texas A&M is coming off a split weekend of competition in Florida and California. The group in Gainesville got a taste of the Gators track which will be the home of the SEC Outdoor Championships this season and secured a trio of event wins. Lianna Davidson won her fourth javelin event this season, as she recorded her second-longest mark this year throwing 57.26m/187-10. Kimar Farquharson won a tightly contested 800m event in a photo finish, crossing the line in 1:46.69 to beat all the collegiate and professional athletes in the event. Finally, Connor Gregston won the first event of his collegiate career in the open section of the men’s pole vault with a clearance of 5.13m/16-10.

The distance group which headed to Azusa, California, was spearheaded by Victor Kibiego as he secured a pair of all-time ranking marks in the 3,000m steeplechase and 5,000m. He opened his campaign Thursday in the steeple, where he finished second in a time of 8:25.48, this time ranked him second in the country this year and No. 2 in the A&M record books. He followed up Friday in the 5,000m, crossing the line in 13:45.80 which was good for No. 3 on A&M’s all-time performers list.

Standing out within the SEC, the Maroon & White lead the conference in eight events. Ja’Qualon Scott in the 110m hurdles (13.32), Sam Whitmarsh in the 800m (1:40.46), Kibiego in the 3,000m steeplechase (8:25.48) and Carter Bajoit in the high jump (2.25m/7-4.5) make up the men’s leaders, while Heather Abadie in the pole vault (4.36m/14-3.5), Lamara Distin in the high jump (1.96m/6-5), Davidson in the javelin (57.28m/187-11) and Timara Chapman in the heptathlon (6,219 points) pace the women in the league.

Events start Saturday at 10 a.m. with the 5,000m’s and hammer throw. The remainder of the field events continue throughout the day. After the 5,000m events conclude in the morning, the track events restart at 2:15 p.m. with the 4x100m relays. The meet is scheduled to conclude around 4:35 p.m.

The Aggies will honor 25 seniors starting at 1:45 p.m., the list includes Jermaisha Arnold, Carter Bajoit, John Baker, Madison Brown, Katelyn Buckley, Eric Casarez, Timara Chapman, Kirk Collins, Jr., Jonathan Chung, Victoria De La Garza, Lamara Distin, Connor Gregston, Sevanna Hanson, Maci Irons, Siddharth Jayaraman, Nissi Kabongo, Semira Killebrew, Joshua Mather, Devante Mount, Caden Norris, Jevon O’Bryant, Ushan Perera, Connor Schulman, Julian Stoicoviciu and Joniar Thomas.

Five programs make the trip to Aggieland to join A&M including, Angelo State, Sam Houston, Texas State, UTSA and UT-Tyler.
