While many things are returning to a more normal state, COVID-19 remains a global pandemic.
COVID-19 cases have dropped to low levels after the early 2022 surge of the omicron variant, but health officials are still urging people to get vaccinated if they have yet to do so.
More than two-thirds of Americans have received their primary series of shots, and about half have received their first booster, according to the CDC. More than 30% have received a second booster.
Where people 50 and older can get their 2nd COVID-19 booster in San Antonio
The U.S. currently has four COVID-19 vaccines available — Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, Novavax, and Johnson & Johnson.
Children 6 months to 4 years old can get their primary series dose, and children 5-11 years can get the original (monovalent) booster. People 12 years old and older can receive one updated Pfizer or Moderna (bivalent) booster.

Vaccines are now widely available and appointments are not needed in many places.
Doses of the COVID-19 vaccines come from the federal government to the states to be distributed. Texas distributes its allotted vaccines to hospitals, pharmacies, local health departments, freestanding ERs and other clinics.

Where to get a COVID-19 vaccine or booster
The city’s drive-through vaccination site at the Alamodome closed in March, but there are still many pop-up vaccination clinics. For more information, click here.
You may be able to find the vaccine through your primary care physician or other healthcare providers. You can call your providers to see if they have any available.
Retailers with pharmacies including Walgreens, CVS, H-E-B, Walmart, Sam’s Club, Costco and Target are also offering COVID-19 vaccines and boosters. Visit the retailer’s website for more information.
University Health offers the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines at several pharmacy locations. An appointment or registration isn’t needed for people 5 years and older. However, appointments are needed for those 6 months to under 5 years of age.
