Food truck owner robbed, shot while trying to chase suspect

SAN ANTONIO – A food truck owner was robbed and then shot in the leg on the North Side early Tuesday morning, according to San Antonio police.

The incident occurred around 12:20 a.m. outside Slackers Sports Bar in the 120 block of West Rector Drive, not far from San Pedro Avenue and McCullough Avenue.

According to police, a man dressed in all black wearing a mask went inside the food truck, demanded cash and robbed one of the owners at gunpoint.

The other owner chased the suspect around the building, but that’s when the suspect pulled out a gun and fired, striking the victim near an apartment complex, according to SAPD.

Police said the man then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect has not been found.

Chris Medina, a longtime barber at North Star Barber Shop on Rector, said the food truck does well, and the owners are well liked.

“They’re very consistent, and they seem to have business. I would say they have a following already. I’ve been told the food was good and the service was good,” said Medina. “It’s just unfortunate that it happened here to these folks. Hopefully, you know, it doesn’t happen again.”

The victim was transported by ambulance to University Hospital and was listed in stable condition. The San Antonio Police Department, the San Antonio Fire Department and EMS all responded to the call.
